When Clients Don’t Respond to Treatment

$79.00

As practitioners, the onus is on us to ascertain what is amiss when a client isn’t healing or responding to treatment. It can be easy to let the burden of the lack of progress land on our shoulders. In this 1.5 hour workshop, we’ll discuss why some clients unconsciously resist treatment, and how to recognize and help them get on track.

What Is Going Wrong When A Client Doesn’t Get Better?

It’s tempting to believe that there’s something wrong in your treatment approach, or that perhaps you’re assessing something incorrectly when a client fails to respond to your treatment strategy. It’s a worthy and essential exploration to do the due diligence to ensure that you’re on track with the client’s needs and your approach to treatment is on point.

As a practitioner, you know every client is unique, and their story, symptoms, circumstances inform their experience. Yet you know that the general treatment strategy you take based on the overarching diagnosis, symptom palette, behavior, theme or issue is largely the same from client to client. You’ll nuance your approach, of course. But you don’t have to design a treatment strategy from scratch for things you treat routinely in your practice.

If you feel your assessment and treatment approach are solid, and the client’s issue doesn’t respond, you may be dealing with their unconscious resistance to healing.

Let’s Explore Resistance

We’ll talk through specific cases to identify unconscious resistance. Using this awareness, we’ll develop specific approaches to addressing the resistance, bringing it out of the shadows and into the light, with kindness, clarity and the intention to help the client move forward.

This Practice Leadership skill is an important one for new and seasoned practitioners. The client has the ultimate responsibility for healing, evolving, shifting from where they are to where they want to be. If unconscious resistance is in the room, it can look as though you’re at fault for not generating results.

Fault isn’t the issue, forward momentum is.

Once resistance is uncovered and acknowledged, should progress not occur, we’ll discuss when to offer a referral, and/or discharge a client from your practice.
